
Safety off piste course
This course is designed for people who beyond enjoying skiing off piste want to ski safely whilst off piste. The course covers: - characteristics of snow - rescue from a crevass - how to use an avalanche device - the uses of an avalanche shovel and probe
The week will take place in various ski areas in the Aosta Valley so the participants can see different zones that have different problematic areas. The course will be carried out by our alpine guides and snow experts (AINEVA) The theoretical parts will be alternated with ample time for skiing off piste and searching for powder!
Details
Sunday Arrival in the Aosta Valley. Settle into chosen hotel. Meet with your mountain-experts alpine guide to go over the weeks program and ski equipment check.
Day 1 Distribution of any missing materials. If needed a.r.v.a., shovel and probe can be provided by mountain-experts. Lesson on off piste equipment and their technical characteristics. Lunch in a mountain restaurant (not included) Off piste skiing until lift closure
Day 2 Visit to suitable terrain for simulation of an avalanche. Practical experience using a.r.v.a. to search for a buried body. (The a.r.v.a. will be hidden by the guide and each participant will have the opportunity to search and locate the body) Lunch in a mountain restaurant (not included) Off piste skiing until lift closure
Day 3 Lesson on snow with an AINEVA expert to learn about the propeerties of snow and its various states. Lunch in a mountain restaurant (not included) Off piste skiing until lift closure
Day 4 Lesson on the dangers of a Glacier and the techniques and of making a rescue from a crevass. Lunch in a mountain restaurant (not included) Off piste skiing until lift closure
Day 5 Off piste ski. fuori pista a volontą tutta la giornata fino a chiusura degli impianti. Lunch in a mountain restaurant (not included) Off piste skiing until lift closure Dinner with your guide who will give out certificates of you participation of the course.
