Tour of Monte Rosa (5 days - max 4 pax)

 

Our alpine guides will accompany you on this magical high altitude tour of the Monte Rosa. You will climb peaks with breathtaking 360° views towards Switzerland, Italy and the Maritime Alps.

 

You will also have the opportunity to stay the night at the highest refuge in Europe, situated at an altitude of 4559mt.  Here, sunrise and sunset leave you lost for words!!

 

Day 1

Plateau Rosa-Refuge - Quintino Sella Refuge

6 hours

We depart from Cervinia with the ski lifts to Plateau Rosa, from here we hike up towards Piccolo Cervino  and then walk across the flats of the Breithorn towards the Castore.  We head up the west side of the Castore until we arrive at the top (4221mt).  The descent is via a easy ridge that takes us to the Quintino Sella refuge.

 

Day 2

Quintino Sella-Refuge - Gnifetti refuge

4 hours

An easy hike on the Glacier which crosses over the ‘Naso del Lyskamm’ where we climb the steepest slope of the tour.  We go down the other side and it is here one can admire the most impressive and outstandingly beautiful peaks of Monte Rosa.

 

Day3

Gnifetti refuge – Zumstein summit - Punta Gnifetti - Capanna Margherita

5 hours

An incredible walk on the glacier in the heart of Monte Rosa.  We will pass by the colle del Lys (4200mt), where one can admire a 360° view of all the 4000mt peaks.  At this point we head up to the summit of the Zumstein (4400mt) and then onwards to the Capanna Margherita (4559mt).  Here we will spend an unforgetable night  in the highest refuge in Europe.

 

Day 4

Capanna Margherita - Monterosa Hutte

4-5 hours

We descend along the long Grenz glacier under the imposing north face of the Lyskamm towards Zermatt.  Stopping at the Monterosa Hutte refuge.

 

Day 5

Monterosa Hutte Refuge - Cervinia

5 hours (3 walking)

 

The descent is along the morfine  of the Gorner Glacier, where eventually we arrive in the pretty village of Zermatt.  Here one takes in the spectacular view of the North face of the Cervino (Matterhorn)  From Zermatt we take the lift up to the Piccolo Cervino.  There is a short walk to Plateau Rosa and then the final descent by cable car and gondola to Cervinia.

 

The tour may be modified by your Alpine Guide based on the weather or if the conditions are deemed to be dangerous for the particpants.
